Gendered experiences of justice and domestic abuse. Evidence for policy and practice.

Women’s Aid and the Centre for Gender and Violence Research at the University of Bristol

The report adds to the evidence base on the gendered nature of domestic abuse by exploring how sexism and misogyny impact survivors’ experiences. In our analysis of 37 transcripts of in-depth survivor interviews we identified gendering discourses within three main discursive themes:

• Household/relationship roles
• Sexuality and intimate partner relationships
• Mental health and domestic abuse

We have also published a blog, It’s time to flip the sexist script, that discusses the research.

We are talking about this research on social media using the hashtag #FlipTheSexistScript. Our central message is that we all need to work together to call out the sexism and misogyny that enable male violence against women.
