Violence against women and Covid-19: How do we tackle two pandemics at once?
EIGE online expert conference, 10:00 – 16:00 CET (tbc)
The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) will bring together experts in the field of violence against women to discuss the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and accompanying lockdown measures on victims of intimate partner violence. The expert conference will precede EIGE’s joint conference with the German presidency Women in focus: coronavirus and gender equality in Europe, which will be held on 19 November.
Participants will explore how the pandemic affected access to services (including helplines and shelters) and discuss the most promising measures EU Member States put in place to help victims.
Guests will include representatives from governmental institutions and civil society from all Member States, as well as the EU institutions and the Council of Europe.
EIGE will also launch its study examining the factors that enable witnesses to support victims of intimate partner violence and present initial results from its study on Covid-19 and violence against women, to be published in 2021. This will include a mapping of innovative measures implemented across the EU, as well as policy recommendations.
The expert conference will consist of online discussion panels and parallel workshops.
